2015 Sauvignon Blanc
2015 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc – River Road Ranch
Our River Road Ranch is in the heart of the Russian River Valley appellation. Sauvignon Blanc grapes thrive here in the well-drained gravel and clay loam soils. We handpicked fruit from fifteen-year-old vines planted with clone #01, a selection with a distinguished history in California. In 2015, the California drought conditions contributed to an early growing season with mild weather and a relatively light crop.
We gently pressed the whole bunches and chilled the juice for two-three days, in stainless steel tanks. Then we fermented the Sauvignon Blanc with a South African yeast strain selected for its aroma enhancing qualities. Prior to bottling, approximately 50% of the wine aged 4 months in neutral French oak barrels, to integrate flavors and structure. 2,685 cases were bottled.
Winemaker Scot Covington’s Tasting Notes
Aromas of rose petal, white peach and a mineral quality we describe as ‘wet stone’ extend to the full palate. The wine is luscious, highlighted with distinctive minerality and a firm, refreshing finish. This Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect complement to fresh oysters and wild Pacific salmon, simply grilled.
