2012 Henry's Blend

The Vintage
2012 will go down in the record books as the most perfect vintage in recent memory. For anyone growing grapes born after WWII,
2012 was the most ideal harvest and vintage in their lifetime. The mild winter and beautiful spring lead to bud break in mid-March.
The growing season was warm but mild without any spikes, rain or cooling trends. The textbook weather and growing conditions led
to a consistent ripening period and a smooth harvest.
The Wine
A tribute to the family patriarch, this deep red wine is a blend of the five classic Bordeaux varieties: 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34%
Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. Cabernet Sauvignon forms the base structure and Merlot
contributes fruit flavors and velvety texture; the Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot add depth, color and spice. We
harvested the fruit from select blocks located on three Trione ranches in Alexander Valley.
We fermented each variety separately in small, open top vessels. Using a unique irrigation device, we aerated and circulated
free-run juice over the cap during the peak of fermentation, gently extracting deep flavors. The wine aged 18 months in French oak
barrels (40% new) from coopers Taransaud, Vicard and TW Boswell.
1,046 cases were produced.
Winemaker Scot Covington’s Tasting Notes
This wine is soft, supple, and velvety on initial impact. Aromas and flavors of spice, black currants, and blackberry pie. The finish is
long and lingering with integrated hints of cedar and cigar box. This Bordeaux style blend will develop for the next 6-7 years.
