Made Pony

A term used by polo players to describe an exceptional, well-trained, horse. Trione Made Pony honors our family's passion for the sport, as well as our tireless pursuit of excellence. Like a true made pony, this wine is distinctive and memorable. The name 'Made Pony' was selected as an ode to the late Henry Trione for his love of Polo and excellent red wine. The label is distinctly different from the rest of the Trione labels because Made Pony is meant to stand out for its uniqueness in style, flavor profile, and blends. 

Winemaking
This wine starts with a blend of components we use for the Henry’s Blend. These bordeaux varieties are always aged in French oak barrels for at least 18 months. We then take one wine that has been aged in barrel for an extended period and add that to the blend. We are looking for a bold, rich mouthfeel with good balance and acidity of a newer wine coupled with the smooth rich flavors of an aged wine. This release of Made Pony has a small percentage of Petite Sirah to add a deep, inky color and bring forward more spice and herbaceousness along with the forest fruit notes coming from the Bordeaux varietals. 

Tasting Notes
Deep, alluring notes of bing cherry, and black current with hints of spearmint, leather, and sage. The extended barrel aging adds elegant spice notes of cinnamon, clove, and sandalwood dusted with black pepper. This wine is big and bold with firm tannin structure and a long, lingering finish. It's excellent on its own or paired with smoked meats, pasta with roasted peppers, and beef filet.
